Film release helps charities ‘sex up’ their campaigns
From the Mosman Daily – 17 MAY 10 @ 10:02AM BY BOEL ERIKSSON
CHARITIES are taking advantage of the hype surrounding the must-see Hollywood movie Sex and the City 2 by setting up fundraisers at Cremorne’s Hayden Orpheum Cinema.
The movie is the sequel to the successful 2008 film Sex and the City, which was based on the TV series of the same name.
Several charities are hoping the hundreds of ladies expected to flood the cinema in the first week of June, when the chick-flick is released in Australia, will choose their cause when buying a ticket.
Young Love Foundation, a non-profit organisation offering mentors for young people, will hold an event at the cinema on June 7.
Money raised will go towards Bump, a mentoring program for mums aged under 23.
“The movie is about friendship and friends supporting each other which ties in well with what we are trying to achieve with our mentoring program,” director and Mosman resident Vicki Condon said.
The $35 ticket includes champagne and chocolates. Champagne will flow from 7pm, and the movie premieres at 8.15pm (purchase tickets by May 31 at www.stickytickets.com.au/3479).
Tour de Cure organisers are holding their screening on the premiere day, June 2.
The United Future Foundation is hoping to raise money for its school project in Uganda. It will host the screening on June 3.
Tickets are $30, with $10 to the foundation, and guests will get a glass of champagne at Hotel Cremorne before the 9pm movie (visit uff.org.au or email annabelle@uff.org.au).
